#ROW80 Round 3 but Round 1 for me! #amwriting #KansasBeatitude

It’s been a long time since I’ve written. Sleep deprivation is a real thing, yo. My baby, this past week, has finally decided to sleep through the night (again). He took about 6 weeks off of sleeping through the night. I’m hoping this sticks for him because I really miss writing and spending time in the writing world. I feel so far behind.

I was supposed to have a book written and ready to go for release on October 1st, and I honestly haven’t even finished outlining it. It’s halfway outlined. I’ve given up on getting it written for this year, so it’ll just have to be on my list for next year. In the meantime, I feel horrible about not writing. It’s my number one stress reliever, and I haven’t written properly since NOVEMBER OF LAST YEAR! Such a scary thought.

Anywho. I decided to jump in on this round of ROW80 to try and get back in the swing of things. As I was laying in bed this morning at 5:30 because my spouse insisted on waking me up to tell me about an awesome thunderstorm, I came up with a short story romance series that I wanted to write. It’s called “Kansas Beatitude” which means I already have built in titles & series name. haha! I love when it works for you.

There are 8 short stories in this series based on the 8 beatitudes in the gospel of Matthew. And by based, I mean loosely themed on them. I’m writing the second one right now because I couldn’t come up with a good idea for the first one. (Poor in Spirit is a HARD topic to figure something out on). The characters are all different in each piece, though they will probably interweave to some degree once I get going. They will all be set in Western Kansas, where I live. The goal is that each short story will be about 15k words long.

Since there are 80 days in ROW80 and I have 8 short stories to write, I figure one short story every ten days. Which means, I’m already behind if I don’t finish this one short story today and I’m only 1500 words in, so I’m guessing I’m not going to finish it today. It means I’ll have to work hard to catch up.

Here’s my goals:

SHORT STORY TITLES: Poor in Spirit, Mourn (the one I’m currently writing), Meek, Hunger & Thirst, Merciful, Pure in Heart, Peacemakers, Persecuted.

DATES TO FINISH BY: July 14, July 24, Aug 3, Aug 13, Aug 23, Sep 2, Sept 12, Sept 22 (if I counted correctly)

I’m going to need some serious accountability on this to accomplish it. Even if I just make it through one short story at this point, I’m going to be so happy because it has been so long since I’ve written.

Like I said earlier, I skipped Poor in Spirit (Kansas Beatitude #1) and opted to start work on Mourn (Kansas Beatitude #2) because I had an idea pop in my head for it. I will have to go back and write the first one if I want to start sending this off to publishers to try and get it out into the real world because self-publishing for me does not go as well as it should.

I have 3 more short stories to come up with ideas for (including the first one), and I have about 12,500 more words to write on Mourn. Guess I better get to pecking at this keyboard in a more productive manner. Anyhow, catch you later! I’m off to write.

The story continues… #ROW80 and #WIPpetWednesday

As you can see below, I haven’t done much, and I’m heading in a very busy month for me. I’m hoping I get something done this week before I start driving around the entire middle part of our country it seems. I’m pretty sure I’ll be putting close to 3k miles on my car in the month of June with about 5 separate trips. Feel free to shoot me now and save me the pain later. =P

1. Lost & Forsaken — write 1 chapter a day until complete (3.5 chapters to go)

Sunday – none
Monday – none
Tuesday – none

2. Simple Biology — write 1 chapter a day until complete (26 chapters to go)

– This is to start after Lost & Forsaken is finished

3. Outline that novella thing the paranormal romance that has no name so, MILFy thing 3 (14 chapters)

4. Edit Grace through Redemption — 1 chapter a day until caught up, then as they come in from betas

Sunday: chap 13
Monday: none
Tuesday: none

I’m waiting no the next chapter from beta readers, so until then I have nothing to do.

5. Edit Unbound — 2 chapters a day until completed

Sunday: none
Monday: none
Tuesday: none

I swear to better work before Sunday, but I will be out of town Friday and Saturday, so we’ll see.

Onto WIPpet Wednesday.

As a continuation of what I wrote last week…I did finish the outline of this novella because I was trying to avoid writing more until I finish writing Grace. That didn’t work out completely in my head as I did write more, but I haven’t finished writing chapter one yet. This novella is still untitled, so MILFy 3 thing will be in progress as soon as I finish Grace 4.

If you would like to join in WIPpet Wednesday, it’s uber easy and open to all. Just make a blog post with a snippet of your work in progress, correlate it to the date somehow, and link it up here to all the rest of us. We’ll check you out, you check us out, and the world goes round.

Today I give you 15 short paragraphs for the last two digits in the year. I’ve also included the two moments of dialogue from the previous post to help you remember where you were.

“What does she do?”

“Just wanders,” Kay answered, her eyes wide.

“That’s it?” Harper asked. “Doesn’t seem so scary.”

Kay chuckled, rolling her neck. She wanted to go back inside to employee housing, but she didn’t at the same time. Sighing, she stretched her back muscles and stared into the fire. “Well, some people say she kidnaps children. I don’t think so much though. We don’t have a lot of children going missing around her. Stupid adults, yeah, children, not really.”

Harper nodded. “Sounds like a stupid legend if you ask me.”

Kay rolled her eyes. Some new recruits bought it, while others didn’t. It didn’t matter in the long run anyway. She was doing her duty and sharing the legend that had been shared with her, passing down the story to the next generation of rangers at the park so the story would always be alive. Tucking her hair behind her ear, Kay closed her eyes and listened to the sounds of the night.

There was water moving far off, so far off she could barely hear it. The trees rustled in the wind, their branches brushing together to create a constant background noise that she missed during her winter months gone. Kay loved the outdoors, loved being in Glacier, but it wasn’t feasible to work there year round. It was closed most months of the year, meaning she had to find work in her home town for the remaining months.

But three months of Glacier was bliss for her. Bliss in a way she could never quite explain to anyone. She licked her lips and glanced back at the blazing fire. Luckily it was still the beginning of the summer and fire season hadn’t hit yet. Toward the end they wouldn’t be allowed to have their fires, not that other rangers would be interested that far in.

“What else does she do?” Gladys asked, bringing Kay out of her thoughts and back to the legend she was sharing.

Kay shrugged. “It’s said she didn’t appear until the early 1900s. She’s been here since before the park was a park.”

“How do you know it’s a she?”

Frowning, Kay looked over at Jackson. “Because she looks like a she?”

“Don’t all ghosts look alike anyway? Billowy, white, ethereal?”

Her brow furrowed, and Kay shook her head. “She has long white hair. I think she’s more doing a disappearing act than the whole Casper the ghost thing. I haven’t heard any stories of her levitating or glowing anyway.”

“So she could be real.”

“I guess,” Kay answered. “But she’s seen every year all the time. She’s not just a tourist, and she’s been here since before the park was established. She’d be damn old if she was real.”

And that’s all I have for you today folks! Catch you on the flip side!

Working but not working while maintaining balance #ROW80

I decided to take a bit of a break, or rather, my brain decided it was going to take a break. Thursday was long and slow and had some emotional stuff going on. Friday wasn’t any better. So instead of being on my computer, I laid on my couch and watched television ALL DAY. For any of you who know me, you know this is rare. I rarely watch television, so I did a binge watch of some new shows.

I have been working, on and off, as you can see below, but I’ve not been working, as you can also see below. My timing seems to be off in terms of regular and consistent work, and I was doing a lot of it on one day and none on another. I used to work like this, but I’ve tried to even it out a bit more, for my sanity, for my production levels, and for my body physically. While I love days when I can write 17k words at once, my wrists do not, my elbows do not, and my brain certainly does not.

So I have been working and not working. I’ve been editing and not writing. I have two more novels releasing this year that need to go through the editing process or are somewhere in there. Not to mention, I do need to be writing some more blog posts. If anything, my blog post yesterday tells me that.

Does anyone else struggle with what to do and when to do it? I know writing is important but so is marketing, so is keeping my presence up on social media sites. It’s a balance that I try very hard to keep, and this year I think I managed it, but I won’t be able to maintain that forever. A huge part of that is because the SO and I work opposite shifts, meaning I have much of my day (like all of it except 2-3 hours) to myself. When the SO gets a new job with different hours, that will change.

I talked with another author who writes full time. He spends 5 hours a day working, 7 days a week. the first 3 hours he markets, the second 2 he writes, and his goal is 2k words a day so he doesn’t get burned out. I’m pretty sure he far exceeds that amount every day. My balance currently is writing as soon as I wake up in the morning for 3 hours, which means I get anywhere from 2k-5k words written (my goal is usually 1 chapter, which currently is 4k ish words). I tend not to write on Sundays because of day job busyness. I go to my day job, and in the evenings I edit or do some marketing.

How does everyone else keep this balance? What are your “rules” for it? What’s your pattern?

1. Lost & Forsaken — write 1 chapter a day until complete (3.5 chapters to go)

Wednesday: Ch 17
Thursday : Ch 18 — half of it anyway
Friday: none
Saturday: none

2. Simple Biology — write 1 chapter a day until complete (26 chapters to go)

– This is to start after Lost & Forsaken is finished

3. Outline that novella thing the paranormal romance that has no name so, MILFy thing 3 (14 chapters)

– Did this on Wednesday and Thursday…sadly this is probably going to be written before Simple Biology

4. Edit Grace through Redemption — 1 chapter a day until caught up, then as they come in from betas

Wednesday: none
Thursday: none
Friday: ch 8
Saturday: ch 9, 10, 11, 12

I’m now caught up with my beta readers, meaning I have to wait for more chapters to come in before I can edit =P only 4 more chapters to go in this novel!

5. Edit Unbound — 2 chapters a day until completed

Wednesday: none
Thursday: none
Friday: none
Saturday: ch 12, 13

I do need to finish this one soon so it can get back to my publisher and formatting stuff

Glacial Freeze #ROW80 and #WIPPetWednednesday

Well hello there!! I’m doing loads of new things this week. I’ve got my new goal sheet and I’m going to be doing a new WIPpet with you all. Here’s ROW80

1. Lost & Forsaken — write 1 chapter a day until complete (7 chapters to go)

Monday – Yup! ch 15
Tuesday – ch 16
Wednesday – working on it right now!

2. Simple Biology — write 1 chapter a day until complete (26 chapters to go)

– This is to start after Lost & Forsaken is finished

3. Outline that novella thing the paranormal romance that has no name so, MILFy thing 3

– nope

4. Edit Grace through Redemption — 1 chapter a day until caught up, then as they come in from betas

Monday – ch 5
Tuesday – ch 6 & 7

5. Edit Unbound — 2 chapters a day until completed (round 1), 2 chapters a day until completed (round 2)

– haven’t done this! doh!

So for WIPpet!

I decided to take a page from Regi’s book. Since I’m not going to share from Lost & Forsaken (it’s book 4 and book 2 isn’t even out yet. Finding non-spoilers is hard), I’m going to work straight through on a this MILFy thing 3 that I want to write. My ultimate goal is to keep it about 40k words total, but since I’ve tried that in the past and NOT had luck with it, we’ll see how this goes. I’ll be posting an excerpt a week from the MILFy thing 3, pretty much writing a little each week until I finish the two projects I have going now and then I’ll bang it (pun maybe intended?). So here we go…the MILFy thing 3.

This is hard, since I don’t have names for characters yet lol

Okay, here’s what I did. I sat down and wrote for five minutes to start this story. 5 minutes being for the 5th month of the year. Please excuse all typos, seeing as how I literally just typed this out. Have fun!

“Have you ever heard the legend?” Kay whispered one night. Her heart was thundering in her chest, but she knew hers wasn’t as bad as the other rangers. She took a deep breath when they shook their heads no, the firelight flickering on their faces in the cold night air. “Really?”

“Nope,” Gladys replied. “But it is only my first year here.”

Kay nodded. She’d been a ranger at Glacier National Park for the last three summers. Gladys was only on her first, and she’d been stationed at the park entrance, meaning she probably didn’t hear as many of the stories as Kay had. It was a lonely job up front.

“It starts like this. There’s been sightings, all over the park, of this woman. They say she’s ethereal, pale as a ghost with hair so white. But she’s young. In her twenties maybe.” Kay looked around at the other rangers and smiled. No doubt some of them had heard the story before, or perhaps they had even seen the woman wandering the forests. Kay had never seen her, but that didn’t matter much, it was fun to spread the story around. “Her eyes are as blue as the center of Lake Mary.”

“Have you see her?” Gladys asked, leaning in, her curly hair with gray streaks falling in front of her eyes.

“I haven’t. But Jacob told me he saw her once.”

“Who’s Jacob?”

“He worked her last year. Wife’s pregnant though.”

Gladys nodded and so did Harper. Kay took a deep breath, the tension in her chest tightening as she continued. “She wanders the forests during the day and at night. Guests have seen her coming and going, but when they go in search for her no one can find her.”

“That’s not surprising out here,” Harper muttered.

“Well, that’s true,” Kay agreed. Every year people got lost in the great forests of the national park, and every year someone didn’t come home, never to be seen from again. It was their job to make sure that happened the least amount of times as possible. “She wanders through the forest. Jacob said she was humming this tune that he’d never heard before but it sounded like a lullaby.”

“What does she do?”

“Just wanders,” Kay answered, her eyes wide.

A break and some refocusing #ROW80

Well, I just got back from the SO’s graduation, and wow, it was busy busy busy. So needless to say, I got not much done. However, I wasn’t getting much done on my goals before that. I realize I need to reevaluate a bit and then hunker down and do some work.

A few things have happened since I maybe last posted. I don’t remember much. My book, Memoir in the Making, released with a week long release party on Facebook and a tour. And oh boy, talk about time consuming, way more than I thought it would be. I’ve also been gearing up for my next release on June 1, and that party. Not to mention, I asked to have a release date bumped from June 2016 to December 2015, meaning I don’t have anything written yet that will release in 2016.

Which is a scary thought for me. I’m a planner, and I usually always have these things done well before I need to have them be done, so yeah, freaking out slightly on this one.

Goal for this year is to write 2-3 more books so I can have some 2016 releases. I’m almost done with one book! yay! but that leaves at least one more than needs to be outlined and written. So much work to do!

For those who were following my goals, I’m redoing them a bit. I finished my May copy-edit and my second one bounced on me, meaning I don’t have a copy edit until mid-June now. *evil laugh* This also means I get to massively focus on my own work for the first time in something like 8 months. So here goes, new goals and how I shall achieve them.

1. Lost & Forsaken — write 1 chapter a day until complete (7 chapters to go)

2. Simple Biology — write 1 chapter a day until complete (26 chapters to go)

3. Outline that novella thing the paranormal romance that has no name so, MILFy thing 3

4. Edit Grace through Redemption — 1 chapter a day until caught up, then as they come in from betas

5. Edit Unbound — 2 chapters a day until completed (round 1), 2 chapters a day until completed (round 2)

There be my new goals through the rest of this round of ROW80. Here’s to hoping I get them all done!!

It’s Sunday!! #ROW80

Good morning! I only have about negative 5 minutes to write this before I have to run off to add day churchy stuff, but I’m here writing it.

Right now I’m juggling day job stuffs, release day for TWO things stuff, and maybe writing and editing stuffs but not really very well. If you missed my last blog post, I had two things release on the 1st. One is a full length novel, my first romance, and the second is a short story in an anthology.

My romance novel, Memoir in the Making, has been ranked in the top 35ish on Amazon since its release. w00t!! And I have a week long release party to go with it, and all I can say, is thank God for my PA Amber. I don’t know what I’d be doing without here right about now. Probably running around like a chicken with its head cut off.

So in light of that. I’ve been slacking a bit on my ROW80 goodness. BUT! I did finish Camp NaNo on the last day of Camp, but I finished with 51186 words in Lost & Forsaken. I started 15 days in, so I didn’t quite expect to actually finish on time.

1. Write 3k words a day on Lost & Forsaken until finished.

Wednesday: 2764
Thursday: 3749
Friday: 0
Saturday: 0

2. Edit 2 chapters a day on Her Run for Rachael

3. Edit 2 chapters a day on shorts for Kaden

DONE! I finished this on Thursday and sent them back to her. I started in on my next copy edit, “Emily: Stepping Stones #1” by Jasmine Lee. Goal is 2 chapters a day until I finish and to finish before I have to drive down to Texas. I edited Friday but not Saturday, and I’m not sure if I’ll have time to do it today.

4. Edit 1 chapter a day on Unbound: Book One of Quarter Life which is my own thing that’s supposed to be coming out in Oct.

I haven’t done this at all. Hopefully soon!

If you want to check out my new releases. They be here

Memoir in the Making
Young Love, Old Hearts anthology featuring A Blizzard’s Blow

Or better yet! Come join in the awesome fun at the week long release party with tons of amazing romance authors joining in. That’s over here.

Excitement of Creation #ROW80 and #WIPpetWednesday

Good morning! As I mentioned when I first posted these goals that they were the goals through April at least. It looks like they’re going to last until about halfway through May too, so I’ll keep them up until they need to change.

1. Write 3k words a day on Lost & Forsaken until finished.

Sunday: 0
Monday: 4024
Tuesday: 3057

This gives me a total of 43,612, meaning I have only about 6.5k more to write to finish out Camp NaNo! The Camp NaNo site says I only need about 2100 words to finish on time. I disagree with it since there are only two days left, but I do believe I shall accomplish Camp. I had to split a chapter recently and that made me fall a bit behind. But it feels SO GOOD to be over halfway done with this novel

2. Edit 2 chapters a day on Her Run for Rachael

3. Edit 2 chapters a day on shorts for Kaden

Goal was to yesterday do two and today do four, but that didn’t happen. Perhaps today I will get some of this done. I need to stop procrastinating on it for sure.

4. Edit 1 chapter a day on Unbound: Book One of Quarter Life which is my own thing that’s supposed to be coming out in Oct.

Pfffft….I’m getting so behind in this it’s not even funny. But it doesn’t really matter because, well, I have so much time for it! I did, however, get my cover done. Thanks to the awesome Stacy for doing it for me!

Unbound COVER2

Also!! In other awesome and amazing news!!! My publisher put up Memoir in the Making a few days early on the publishers site. I’m so excited for this piece to finally be out. Probably because I love it and because it’s been so long since I’ve had a book release. I’ve forgotten what it tastes like! I’m hoping for great things for Memoir in the Making. It’s my fifth book to be released, but it’s a new to be genre, meaning I’m not sure if it will. Here’s to hoping. *fingers crossed*

Memoir04sample

Now onto WIPpet! I debated whether or not to post a WIPpet today. I reveal my huge secret about said novel on the FB page tomorrow, meaning I can share it everywhere tomorrow afternoon. But it’s not tomorrow yet. So what to do? I haven’t really worked on anything but the novel since I’m trying to catch up with Camp NaNo. I did submit some shorts to Chicken Soup for the Soul, but those are personal, so I’d rather not share them, so it leaves me in a bit of a pickle. What to share with you all today!

What you get is ten lines from the short story I was working on before that I still haven’t finished because I’m unsure if I like it or not. In response to the posts last week…Cheska (the POV character) and Kapri are on a science research vessel for a hellishly long time to research geomagnetic storms. They had finally found one after sixty days of searching, sort of. They were in the afterwaves of the storm and not the storm proper. This following scene happens after that.

For those of you new to this, WIPpet Wednesday is where we all post excerpts from our works in progress. There’s only two hard fast rules. One link your WIPpet to the rest right here. And two, your excerpt has to related to the date in some form or fashion, so get creative with the math.

Like I said, ten sentences for April 29th, 2015. Taking the 4 + the 5 + the 1 = 10

“You’ve done this before, though.”

“Not like this.”

I shook my head. “Not like what?”

Kapri groaned and pushed up from my cot, walking away. My stomach dropped and I followed her, dropping my bowl to the metal floor. I trailed closely behind her and stopped when she grabbed her own back of gunk to mix with water.

“Not like what?” I repeated.

“Drop it,” Kapri said, her voice low and threatening.

“No. I’m sorry, but it’s been sixty days of hell in here with you. You don’t talk, you don’t do anything except work, you barely even look at me. I get that you’re passionate, but everyone needs a break now and then.”

“Cheska—stop.”

“No, I won’t stop.” Desperation flooded my tone, my eyes watered and my voice cracked. “What’s different this time around? What’s so fucking different!?”

“You!”

trying to keep up #ROW80

Well…I’m back!!! I’ve got a lot going on in general, but it always seems to pile up. This week the SO was home for 4 days straight, which seriously cramped my style in writing a bit. Yesterday I drove about an hour to meet another awesome writer whom I’ve connected with online, and it felt so good to be in that world again. Kansas is very isolating sometimes, and I miss all my writer buddies in Texas for sure.

However, I am still making good writing progress. I was talking to a friend online the other day and we were chatting about writing and writing and characters and writing. I mentioned I never had the intention of being a full-time writer. At least not until I retire from my amazing day job. Said friend told me I write a lot for someone not intending to be a full-time writer. I’d have to agree, but why not make good practices of it now? Why not build the audience now while I have time and don’t have worry about it? Why not hone my skill and craft now while I’m not dependent on the income?

All makes sense to me at least. Not that said friend disagreed at all. I think I’m just a conundrum. Which is normal for people to finally recognize that about me. I’m also someone who likes to keep busy.

Anyway! What you’re all here for is a ROW80 update post from me, not some rambling. But my goals were limited this week due to the SO being home more often than anticipated and due to my lack of sleep. It happens.

1. Write 3k words a day on Lost & Forsaken

Wednesday: 1659
Thursday: 4316
Friday: 2382
Saturday: 4083

I’m still on track according to my schedule, but that’s because I’ve been averaging 4k words on days when I write a lot. I’m actually about 1 day ahead of where I should be. The entire novel is at 36,000 words in 9 full days of writing time, so I’m pretty darn proud of that. I’m also working on revealing the secret of what this novel is on the 30th to my FB groupies because I hate keeping secrets like this when I don’t have to.

2. Edit 2 chapters a day on Her Run for Rachael

3. Edit 2 chapters a day on shorts for Kaden

I haven’t worked on this at all yet. Since I wanted to finish this before May (I have another edit coming in May that hit my email this morning), I need to get going. I anticipate about 8 more hours of work on it.

4. Edit 1 chapter a day on Unbound: Book One of Quarter Life which is my own thing that’s supposed to be coming out in Oct.

I got behind in this. I’m supposed to be editing chapter 15 today or tomorrow, I think, and I’m still on chapter 10. A few hours to catch up won’t take long, I just have to find the time to do it.

These were my goals through the month of April, so as soon as May hits, some of these goals are going to change a bit. Some added, some deleted. Right now, I’m looking at

1. Write 3k a day on Lost & Forsaken until it is complete.

2. Write a few short stories (2 a week) when Lost & Forsaken is complete OR dive straight into a new novel.

3. Edit 1 chapter a day for Jasmine.

4. Edit 1 chapter a day on Unbound.

5. Get back on track with Open When blog posts.

Secrets Unbidden #ROW80 & #WIPpetWednesday

Morning! I can hear the birds chirping outside. It’s been my morning wake up for the last week or so. That means spring is officially 100% here if the birds are back. Such an amazing change to see. My wrist has been hurting a whole lot the past few days, meaning I’ve been walking around with an icy hot patch on underneath my brace. I don’t think it’s anything too serious, just too much typing and crocheting, of which I’ve been doing a TON of. The crocheting has calmed down since we mailed the packages for donation at church, but the typing shall continue (at least I hope).

Last night we had some kids stay with us from UMass. They’re bicycling across the country to raise money for brain cancer research, and needless to say, they weren’t expecting Kansas winds. They were very sweet, and I wish them the best, but it was great to connect with some people from “my neck of the woods.”

But enough rambling from me. I shall get to ROW80 and then explain WIPpet Wednesday and my woes.

ROW80

1. Write 3k words a day on Lost & Forsaken

Sunday: 0
Monday: 4543
Tuesday: 4091

I didn’t write on Sunday because sometimes Sundays are just insane for me. If I don’t wake up early early on Sunday morning, then it’s likely I won’t get any writing done for the day. I was doing work stuffs all day on Sunday (day job), so I never got around to do anything writing-wise.

2. Edit 2 chapters a day on Her Run for Rachael

3. Edit 2 chapters a day on shorts for Kaden

I haven’t worked on this at all yet.

4. Edit 1 chapter a day on Unbound: Book One of Quarter Life which is my own thing that’s supposed to be coming out in Oct.

I did manage to do my one chapter a day so far. Oh, no I didn’t, now that I look at my calendar. =P I’m 1 day behind. I’m not quite sure how that happened? Sunday perhaps when I did nothing, but I’ll catch up on this one easily.

WIPpet Wednesday

Now for WIPpet and my explanation. So…I’m not telling anyone about this novel I’m working on. Not really anyway, and I decided I needed to reveal this secret sooner rather than later because, let’s face it, I SUCK at keeping secrets like this. So my plan is to ramp up excitement on FB and twitter and stuffs and then reveal this novel on June 1st, so I don’t have to keep it a secret for well over a year. What this means, though, is I’m not going to be posting a lot of WIPpets from it or any at all, because that would just spoil the secret.

In honor of not telling secrets, this WIPpet is from a short story I’m possibly writing for submission. I’m not sure I like it though, and I can’t figure out why. This is a sci fi short about some people in space. And I’m not giving you more context than that, only because I know this can be taken in a dirty dirty fashion even though it’s not written that way in context.

My math for today is simple…2 + 4 = 6 for 6 very short paragraphs.

“See that?” she whispered, breathless.

How I longed to hear that tone in a different setting. Clearing my throat, I looked down at the white paper feeding from the tiny printer in the top of the station. There were squiggly lines covering it, and when I glanced back up her at her, Kapri’s cheeks were flushed darker and her chest rose and fell rapidly.

“Yeah,” I answered.

“It’s small. But it’s there.”

“This is small?” My voice squeaked, and I swallowed to get it back under control.

Kapri gave me a sharp and pitying look, her thick brows coming closer together and her eyes narrowing. “Yes, this is small.”

The Writing Maverick #ROW80

Good morning!! Today is going to be a busy day for me, and until the SO goes to work, I may not get any time to write. Which is a sad day, but a necessary part of the balance of life. I write much better in the mornings than I do in the afternoons or evenings or nights. I have so much more focus, far less distractions. Anyone else feel like this?

So I’m hoping I get my minimum word count in for today, but if not, I do have a plan. I’m one day ahead of where I should be in terms of my 3k a day goal, so that means I can skip a day, right? This novel I’m working on, Lost & Forsaken, is very different from the others I’ve written like it. Which is nice, but at the same time, it’s hard. I feel as though my characters are struggling with it just as much as I am.

I’m catching up with Camp NaNoWriMo though! It’s my own fault for starting two weeks late into Camp, but I think I can make it up, barring any major emergencies. I’m 20% through with the book already, and about 31% done with Camp NaNo, so I’m definitely making progress finally. I’m about to start chapter 5 today, and once I complete that, I’ll be 25% of the way through concerning chapters =P Progress! Progress! Progress! (If I keep telling myself that, then maybe I’ll keep writing.)

ROW80 goals for the rest of April!

1. Write 3k words a day on Lost & Forsaken

Wednesday: 3133
Thursday: 4151
Friday: 3079
Saturday: 5094

2. Edit 2 chapters a day on Her Run for Rachael

I actually took a whole afternoon on Thursday and just finished this off for her. Her release was coming up, and I wanted her to have it sooner, so this goal is complete.

3. Edit 2 chapters a day on shorts for Kaden

Due to editing more on Rachael’s I didn’t quite do this. I’m still on the first chapter of the third short story. Tomorrow I’ll get back on track though.

4. Edit 1 chapter a day on Unbound: Book One of Quarter Life which is my own thing that’s supposed to be coming out in Oct.

This I have done! In fact, I did two more chapters than I was supposed to just because I could. =P I’ll skip doing it today though, so I can focus on writing when I get home from work.

Oh boy…#WIPpetWednesday

So I’m trying to get back into this whole writing thing. I can come up with excuse after excuse for why I haven’t been writing, but it was really my own laziness, I think. That and stress. Anyway, my goal is to write 50k words toward this new super secret (ha!) novel I’m working on for Camp NaNo, and due to above excuses, I’m just starting today. That means I have to write about 3,000 words a day in order to finish in time. Not impossible for me, but not going to be ridiculously easy to.

So I’m going to dive into this #ROW80 and #WIPpet stuff again. HOWEVER! This is supposed to be a super secret project, which I’m not entirely sold on how that’s going to work in terms of WIPpet, so this shall be interesting. But I need some accountability people! So yell at me if I’m not writing every day.

ROW80 goals for the rest of April!

1. Write 3k words a day on Lost & Forsaken

2. Edit 2 chapters a day on Her Run for Rachael

3. Edit 2 chapters a day on shorts for Kaden

4. Edit 1 chapter a day on Unbound: Book One of Quarter Life which is my own thing that’s supposed to be coming out in Oct.

aaaaaand here’s my WIPpet for today. If you can all guess why this thing is secret from this, I’ll be damned impressed. No context. This is from the first chapter of the book so there isn’t much anyway. I’m giving you 4 paragraphs for the month of April. Simple math for me today.

He didn’t want to set them off, to make them angry. They weren’t fun when they were angry. They weren’t fun most of the time, but when he made they mad they really took it out on him. Harold clutched his hand to his chest and glanced back at the tree several times as he ran in the other direction. He had to get away, but they were everywhere. [REDACTED FOR SPOILERS]

He sniffled in the cold morning hair, drops of water running down his nose and from his eyes. Harold ran again in a new direction than the one he had been going in. They hadn’t ever wanted to take him before, but this time they definitely wanted to take him. He choked on his spit as he moved as fast as he could through the streets.

His feet hurt. They scuffled along the ground and scraped on the asphalt when he dodged out into the street. He blinked the tears out of his eyes and shook his head, grinding his teeth together in an attempt to stave off the pain. If they caught him, there would be more pain than he could ever imagine. That was what happened the last time, so it certainly would happen again.

Stepping up back onto the curb and the smooth cement, Harold pushed onward. He made it down to the school, where he knew they were buried. He blinked rapidly in their direction and then changed his one more time. Why he had run there, he had no idea, but running to them was a bad idea. Running to them would get him hurt, or worse yet, killed. Harold zigzagged again and went as fast as he could away from the football field. He needed to get away, far away.

That’s all folks! Oh and I’m about 800 words shy of my 3k goal for today, so I think I’ll be hitting that in the next thirty minutes or so. If you want to join in either of these awesome events, check out the websites. ROW80 is here and this WIPpet thing is here and is run but Kathi who kicks more ass than Janni. =P The only rules to WIPpet is to make your post related to the date somehow. Pretty easy rule, right? Now! Go forth and write!

Ch-ch-ch-changes! #ROW80

So I’m making some changes to my goal list for this round, mostly because I finished my book and have other things to focus on. Also, my computer will be in the shop for the next two weeks or so, meaning the audio recording is not going to happen this round at all. I just hope they send me back a fixed computer. Meanwhile, I’m back to my old laptop.

Also…I spent the last week in Texas. It was fabulous! Now back to the real world and working hard.

1. Copy-Editing at least 60 pages a day

2. Blog Posts: ROW80 (Sun & Wed), Broken Taboos (Mon), WIPpet (Wed), Open When (Sat) and 1 extra post during the week.

3. Writing 500 words/day on The Domme

4. Reading 4 books by March 1st: Pianissimo by Lauren Shiro; The Bridge: Traitor by Erik Schubach; The Bridge: Inner City — Gargoyles by Victoria Cobretti; Silence out Loud by Geonn Cannon

Those are my new goals, starting tomorrow I’m diving in head first into them!

Thanks for all the support =P

On Fire!!! #ROW80 & #WIPpetWednesday

Well, it’s Wednesday. That means I get to post a ROW80 update and a WIPpet update. I woke up this morning with a killer sore throat. I guess I’m not as over this cold thing as I thought I was. February has started, and February at my day job is INSANE! Not because it’s the month specifically but because I have a trip, it’s the start to Lent, it’s the start of so many things I have to be involved in.

But I’ve also been on fire this week. I can taste the rainbow! I’m going to start with ROW80 as is normal. If you’re just here for the WIPpet, skip down.

  • write 1667 words a day
    • Sunday – 4197
    • Monday – 4420
    • Tuesday – 3913
  • Blog posts each week:ROW80,WIPpet, Open When, and 1 extra post
    • Have two extra posts this week, one today and one tomorrow.
  • Audio: Record/Edit a chapter a week
    • Not done

I have about 8k words left to write in the novel I’m currently working on…that means I’ll have to find something new for after that. I won’t be posting next week at all since I will be out of town. I’ll schedule most of my regular posts, but that’s it.

WIPpet

So this week was a bit difficult for me to choose because I’ve written so much. Next week, meaning Ash Wednesday, meaning Feb 18th and the next time I’ll be participating, will be EVEN harder. I should be done with this novel by then. I should be done with this series by then. It’s sad to think about.

Here’s my WIPpet for the week. From chapter 14, Fire and Brimstone. Deputy Grace Halling has just responded to a call where a vehicle is on fire in a transit parking lot. Today you get 8 short paragraphs because well… 2 +4 + 0 ( 1 + 5) = 8

Once the fire was doused, the firefighters checked on the car. Grace still stood in place. Other officers had driven by, but she’d waved them off to continue with their rounds. It wouldn’t do to have them all gathered around a transit station for nothing more than just a car. She was just debating whether or not to call in investigations when the firefighter who was clearly in charge waved her over.

Grace’s knees creaked when she took her first step. The cold had gotten to them and locked them in place. She slowly made her way closer. The smell was sickening. The scent of burning wood was often comforting, but this, this was a mixture of plastic and heat. Heat beyond what she’d ever seen. Grace wrinkled her nose as she took another step, hitting a patch of ice.

She groaned when her body tilted. Her hands flung out on either side of her body and she swung them around to try and stop her momentum. It didn’t help. Grace closed her eyes as the weight of her body barreled closer to the ground. Her back hit it first, then her shoulders and then her head. Grace moaned and turned on her side as soon as everything stopped moving.

The firefighters were right on top of her. She kept her eyes shut to wave off the embarrassment and to focus herself before she tried to get up again. Their hands were on her face and they were talking to her, but Grace ignored them for a moment. Her back, butt and head hurt like it hadn’t in ages. She’d thought she’d gotten so much better at the being clumsy thing, but obviously she had not.

They tapped her face, and Grace finally opened her eyes to look at them. “Are you all right?” one asked.

“Yeah, fucking dandy. Anyone ever tell you water turns to ice when it’s ten below zero?”

He grinned but kept his hand on her cheek when he respond. “Why yes, yes they did. Also why I walk carefully in the vicinity of water in that temperature.”

She snorted and rolled up so she was leaning on her side. Her head spun and made her feel queasy. Grace clamped her mouth shut and closed her eyes again as the wave of dizziness floated through her system. It would not be good if they wanted to call paramedics. She would be out for her shift, and she couldn’t have that happening. It’d only just begun.

If you would like to join in WIPpet Wednesday, DO IT! To participate you post an excerpt of your WIP, work in progress, on your blog. Correlate it somehow to the date. Then link it here with the rest and comment on some other ones. It’s all fun and games. =P

#ROW80 update — Almost done!

Hello all! My in laws are in town this weekend, so I’m going to make it quick. I have been writing! If I stick with my plan, I’ll finish this piece on Feb 8th or around then, which is just before I leave for a whole week to go to a conference.

So here’s my update

Here’s my ROW80 update.

  • write 1667 words a day
    • Wednesday – 2102
    • Thursday – 2371
    • Friday – 2836
    • Saturday – 6096
  • Blog posts each week:ROW80,WIPpet, Open When, and 1 extra post
    • Did this last week, have two extra posts for this coming week. I think it’s all set.
  • Audio: Record/Edit a chapter a week
    • Not done

As for the writing front. I’m very close to finishing this novel. 3 chapters and an epilogue. So if I write 3k words a day, or average that, I can finish by Feb 7th. I have myself one extra day for a just in case day. I leave on the 9th for Texas for a week, so yeah, would really love to get it done before I spend a busy week down there.

Funny Money #WIPpetWednesday and #ROW80

I really must apologize for not visiting anyone last week. Between having a crappy weekend and then dealing and fighting with depression and illness, it wasn’t possible. Hopefully most of that is over now, or at least will be over by the end of today.

I’m going to try and make up for the days I haven’t written, which now include yesterday. Although, yesterday I came home from work after an hour and a half because I could barely even sit up in my chair. My secretary yelled at me for coming in at all. I feel much better now.

Here’s my ROW80 update.

  • write 1667 words a day
    • Sunday – 0
    • Monday – 2099
    • Tuesday – 0
  • Blog posts each week:ROW80,WIPpet, Open When, and 1 extra post
    • Got this and a few extra for the next two weeks! w00t!
  • Audio: Record/Edit a chapter a week
    • Not done

I have also been working on some promotional stuffs. So … you all get to hear about it now.

Memoir in the Making is being released soon. If you are an author of LGBT et al fiction, sign up for the release party! Free promo to you (pick more than one date). If you want to participate in the blog tour, here’s a sign up. It is a review only tour, so yeah, but LOADS of time to read it.

We’re also doing a blitz for Love is a Mess anthology along with exchanging guest posts through the authors, so you can look forward to that upcoming on my blog. I think that’s all the promo I’ve been setting up. That and getting swag ready. I really need to stop having two releases back to back. It about killed me last summer and I imagine it might this year as well.

Now for WIPpet Wednesday. I really do apologize for not visiting anyone. I try to get to all of you, but this was a hard week. So, I’m trying again this week. 11 short paragraphs from chapter 9, Funny Money. I get 11 because 1 + 2 + 8 = 11.

Grace pulled the free bill out from her pocket and looked it over again. “Is this what you paid for your meal with?”

“How do I know? I paid cash, yes, but I don’t know if that’s the bill I gave them or not.”

“Well, it is the bill you gave them. Lance, your waiter, took it directly to his manager when he noticed something wasn’t quite right with it.”

“What do you mean something’s not right with it?”

“Look closely.”

Grace held the bill up so he could see. After a few seconds he shook his head. “I see nothing wrong with it.”

“That’s interesting. I don’t remember you being a president.”

“What?”

Grace pointed to the picture on the front of it. “This is you. This is not a president. You made fake money with your own damn image on it. How stupid could you be?”

“This has to be a mistake.”

“No mistake.”

Just another update #ROW80

I haven’t had the greatest weekend. It was the first time in a while that I woke up yesterday, stared at my computer and actually decided not to write. I just couldn’t find the head space to do it. There has been loads of drama and conflict going on at work since Friday morning, and it’s not been fun. Friday and Saturday are my weekend, so much for that. Anyway…my writing is slacking a bit.

In other news, I realized that if I write 3,000 words a day I should finish this novel in the first few days of February. It would be awesome if I did that, seeing as how the second week in February I’ll be gone at a conference for work stuff. This novel I’m writing wasn’t supposed to be released until June 1, 2016, but I have a feeling it might be released before then.

I’m already sending chapters to beta readers. They’re on Chapter 2 at the moment, I’m writing chapter 10 (there’s 15 total without the prologue and epilogue, and I’m still not sold on having an epilogue). This year, for 2015, I decided to keep track of all the words I write for the entire year. I’m just 2k words shy of writing 50k words this year already. If I keep that up every month, damn I’ll write a lot of works. I doubt I’ll keep it up every month because there needs to be time for revisions and editing, but still, I think it’s pretty awesome.

Last week I was sort of stuck on Grace through Redemption. I’d hit my 30k word slosh fest. But I am proud to report that I’m now over 50k words in it. Meaning, the novel is over halfway written and I’m out of the slosh fest. This next chapter will be fun to write. It’s all about Santa.

Anyway, onto the update.

    • I did every since post this week, including one extra Open When. This means I’m all caught up on my Open When posts from when I slacked in November (now I just have to type them out on my typewriter). My extra post this coming week will be another writing taboos posts. It should go live tomorrow.
  • Audio: Record/Edit a chapter a week
    • Haven’t touched this goal yet. My computer keeps randomly crashing, so I’m nervous about doing anything of this magnitude on it. I don’t want to do it and then lose it.

Dog Chases #row80 and #WIPpet

I’ve been doing a lot of writing so far this week. It’s been so relaxing and awesome. Grace through Redemption had started the beta reading process and I got the prologue back last night. w00t! I hope the novel will be done soon. Unfortunately my brand new barely a month old computer has been crashing. So I lost some record of my daily word counts. I tried to cobble them together. Also…I’m really mad that my brand new computer is giving me this many issues. It’s hard to get anything done on it.

  • write 1667 words a day

    • Monday — 2404

  • Audio: Record/Edit a chapter a week
    • Haven’t touched this goal yet.

Now for WIPpet Wednesday. I’m still writing Grace through Redemption, even though it’s with beta’s. They’re taking it chapter by chapter and it’s really good motivation for writing the next chapter should I need it. Since I’m having issues picking an excerpt. Here’s 21 sentences for the day of the month from Grace through Redemption called “Moving Day” you’ll find out why shortly. It’s short sentences since it’s mostly dialogue.

Letting out a breath, Grace pushed open the car door and stood up straight. She shut the door quickly, really not wanting a repeat chase of the dog. She said nothing. Amya grabbed her by the cheeks and kissed her hard. Grace felt tears prick at her eyes again and clenched them closed as much as she could so Amya wouldn’t see.

“Whatever you’re thinking, it’s not true,” Amya whispered.

“What are you talking about?”

Amya narrowed her eyes and then shook her head. She opened the door and grabbed the dogs collar, not bothering with a leash. She dragged her back into the bedroom, Grace hot on her heels, locking Roslin in the room.

“Izzy is still outside. I was wondering what was taking you so long, and you didn’t answer your phone.”

“My phone? I—” Grace felt around her pockets but didn’t find the item she was looking for. Amya held her hand up, Grace’s phone between her fingers.

“You left it at my house.”

“Oh. Dog got loose.”

“I see that. Took you an hour to find her?”

“An hour?”

“Yeah.”

“She runs fast,” Grace narrowed her eyes and pouted. If an hour had truly past then she was worse at catching someone than she thought she was.

Sighing, she walked back out to her car and pulled out the last box from the back. She carried it into the house and deposited it in the spare bedroom. When she turned around, Amya was standing in the doorway.

“The guys are loading up the first truck load.”

“Good,” Grace muttered.

“What happened?”

Grace’s head shot up. She shook it when she realized Amya was talking more deeply than she had anticipated. Damn that woman for seeing things Grace didn’t want her to see. “Nothing, just was thinking.”

“About?”

“How I’m a bad cop and yadda yadda. I know.” Grace held up her hand. “Don’t say it.”

“Good.” Amya wrapped her arms around Grace’s middle and rested her chin on Grace’s shoulder. “At least you said it to yourself this time so I don’t have to say it.”

Grace snorted. “Yeah. Now, come on. Let’s get you moved in here. I need to shovel the new snow for the guys.”

And that’s my WIPpet for today! See you all on the flip side. =P

Time and time again #ROW80

I finally got days off. Friday was my first day off since January 3rd, and I took it and ran with it. It felt soon good. Now I’m sitting here on Sunday morning kind of wishing I had just one more day off to finish resting up before head off to work, but alas, it’s Sunday, it’s God’s day and church must happen.

I got two calls last night, both of which took far longer than normal. I ended up talking to my mother for the better part of three hours. Then a friend from graduate school called. I haven’t talked to him since I got married. We spent over half an hour catching up. It was great! I definitely need to do this more often. It kind of felt like I had actual friends.

Other than that, I’ve been writing up a storm. I hit 30k in Grace through Redemption, which is usually my slowing point. I don’t know why, but for some reason in almost every novel, I hit 30k works and then next ten thousand are a huge struggle. It’s only not happened twice. So I’m pushing through it.

Here’s my update for today.

  • write 1667 words a day
    • Wednesday – 3797
    • Thursday – 2631
    • Friday – 3775
    • Saturday – 4470
  • Blog posts each week:ROW80,WIPpet, Open When, and 1 extra post
    • I got all posts done except Open When yesterday…but I had two of them this week since I’m still catching up from November, so it’s not that big of a deal. I’ll just posted a second on in this coming week on Tuesday.
  • Audio: Record/Edit a chapter a week
    • I’ve not done the recording. But my speakers in my computer are miraculously working again…I don’t trust it.

A promotion opportunity… #ROW80 and #WIPpetWednesday

Good morning, world! As my crazy week continues into day eleven of no time off, I’ve decided to take half days. Meaning, I’m home by noon and napping by three and awake again by five. It kills any extra writing time I would get in the afternoons, but three hour naps are often awesome. Then I go back to work in the evenings for some meetings I’m not happy about having (mostly because I want time off, not their content).

Anyway, I am getting some stuff done in the mornings for the most part. Here’s my ROW80 update.

  • write 1667 words a day
    • Sunday — 0
    • Monday — 0
    • Tuesday — 2291
  • Blog posts each week:ROW80,WIPpet, Open When, and 1 extra post
    • I have a post scheduled for every single day this week. All 7 days of them. I’ve started a new blog series that’ll last around ten weeks about the broken taboos I write.
  • Audio: Record/Edit a chapter a week
    • My speakers blew out in my brand new computer that is just barely a month old. So no…I haven’t done this yet, and I’m not sure when I’ll get to it at this point.

Onto WIPpet Wednesday. I’m still hard at work on Grace through Redemption. I have to say, it’s very weird to be working on book 3 when book 2 isn’t out yet. It comes out in June, and we’re working on final edits for it. But still weird. Luckily, there’s loads of non-spoilery information and chunks for me to choose from. This is from a chapter called “Tricks and Pranks.” I think it’s about time Grace move forward in her own little world.

OH! I wrote a short story earlier this year, and I might turn it into a novel. Or at least use that to build a novel, and if I do that, Grace might back a reappearance in it. That’d be pretty kick ass. I still have to write it and get a main character set up, but thus far I think I’ve got the plot figured out. =P

Here are 19 paragraphs (short because it’s pretty much all one line dialogue) from Tricks and Pranks in Grace through Redemption. 19 because 14 + 5 = 19 x 1 = 19 x 1= 19 + (2 x 0) = 19

“Halling.”

“Captain,” she responded with malice in her tone.

“Statement?”

She ran through the events quickly, adding at the end that everything else would be in her report. He took down the basic facts in his tiny notebook and then nodded to her when she finished. Grace felt relief and was about to jump back into her cruiser to finish out what was left of her shift. Hopefully no more calls came in.

“Halling,” he said again, his gaze piercing her.

“Yes, sir.”

“Have you thought about becoming a detective?”

Grace’s brows furrowed, and she narrowed her eyes at him, giving him a disbelieving look. “No, sir. I haven’t.”

“You’ve been a patrol officer for ten years now.”

“I have.”

“And you’ve never thought about it?”

Grace scoffed and shook her head. “I’ve thought about it. Sure. Who hasn’t? But it’s not something I ever thought about pursuing. At least not yet.”

“Well, think about it some more and apply for the positions when they open up. We’re moving people around in departments and have retirements coming up. Your name has been tossed around as a good fit.”

“It—what?”

“Your name has been brought to our attention.”

“For a detective?”

“Yes.”

Grace let out a breath and looked up at him, her eyes wide and her mind racing. She wasn’t sure what to say. She’d honestly never thought she would make a good detective, but with Amya in her life perhaps it would be a good idea to take a position that wasn’t as much on the front-lines as she was.

“I’ll think about it,” Grace answered, finally.

A quick update on a busy weekend #ROW80

Hey all!

My weekend went from semi-busy to crazy busy in the span of about 4 hours. Friday I was supposed to have a half day off, usually it’s a full day off, but I ended up driving four hours to Wichita and 4 hours home. Saturday I had a funeral, and today I have a very full day. So…that means my writing has been lacking.

  • write 1667 words a day

    • Thursday – 3612
    • Friday – 3078
    • Saturday – 0
  • Blog posts each week:ROW80,WIPpet, Open When, and 1 extra post
    • This one gets fun. I did this all this week. Since today starts a new week blog wise…it’s going to be crazy. I have a post for every day this coming week.
  • Audio: Record/Edit a chapter a week
    • Didn’t do this yet.

That’s my quick update for today. I’ll hopefully have a more extensive one on Wednesday. I plan on taking some afternoons off this week to make up for my lack of time off this past week. Here’s to hoping I get the chance to do that.
